ChessView prioritizes your privacy. We don't use ads, trackers, or analytics. We only process data you provide to deliver chess analysis features.
Information We Collect
ChessView collects minimal information only when you actively use specific features:

Local Game Data
ChessView stores your chess games locally on your device. This includes:
- Chess game moves and positions
- Game metadata (date, time, player names you enter)
- Game results and statistics
- Your app preferences and settings
Chess.com Integration
When you choose to use our optional Chess.com integration feature:
- We only request your Chess.com username
- We access publicly available game data from Chess.com's public API
- No passwords or private account information is collected
- All Chess.com data is stored locally on your device
AI Analysis Data
When you use the AI analyzer feature:
- Chess positions are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis
- Only the current board position and game context are transmitted
- No personal information or game history is sent
- Analysis results are displayed immediately and not stored by us
Third-Party Services
Chess.com API
When using the Chess.com integration feature, we connect to Chess.com's public API to retrieve your publicly available game data. This connection is made directly from your device and is subject to Chess.com's own privacy policy and terms of service.
OpenAI API
When using the AI analyzer feature, chess positions are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis. This data is processed according to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. We do not store or have access to this analysis data after it's displayed to you.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or transmit your personal information or game data to any third parties, except for:
- Chess.com API calls (only when you choose to import games)
- OpenAI API calls (only when you choose to use AI analysis)
These connections are made directly from your device and only contain the minimum data necessary for functionality.
How We Use Your Information
All data collected by ChessView is used solely to provide app functionality:
- Display and manage your chess games
- Save your game progress and history
- Import games from Chess.com (if you choose to use this feature)
- Provide AI-powered position analysis (if you choose to use this feature)
- Export games in standard chess formats (PGN, FEN)
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
All your chess games and app data are stored locally on your device using iOS's secure data storage mechanisms. We do not maintain servers or databases with your information.
No Cloud Sync
ChessView does not currently offer cloud synchronization. Your data remains exclusively on your device.
What We Don't Do
ChessView is committed to respecting your privacy. We explicitly do NOT:
- ❌ Use advertising networks or display ads
- ❌ Include analytics or user tracking
- ❌ Use third-party SDKs for tracking
- ❌ Collect device identifiers or personal information
- ❌ Monitor your usage patterns or behavior
- ❌ Share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- ❌ Store your data on our servers
- ❌ Require user registration or accounts
Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your data in ChessView:
- Access: You have full access to all your game data within the app
- Export: You can export your games at any time in standard formats
- Deletion: You can delete individual games or clear all data from within the app
- Feature Control: Chess.com integration and AI analysis are entirely optional and can be used only when you choose
Children's Privacy
ChessView does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is designed to be safe for users of all ages, with all data stored locally on the device.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we make changes:
- We will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
- Significant changes will be communicated through app updates
- Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
